Nelson Mandela was a political leader from South Africa who fervently opposed apartheid. After a long struggle and many years in jail he was ultimately successful in negotiating the end of apartheid in South Africa bringing peace to a racially divided country. He then became the first black President of South Africa in 1994.

Nelson was not only an inspiration and an activist, he was also an author and a symbol of global peacemaking. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.

Mandela will always be remembered for leading change and bringing peace and equality to South Africa.
